Thank you for your interest in the gemiusAudience questionnaire. In conducting the Research and in all our activities, Gemius follows the following privacy principles:
  1. We undertake to treat your privacy and all information obtained from you as confidential.
  2. All information you provide us with will be used for research purposes only.
  3. We will not pass any of your personal data to any third parties without your prior consent.
  4. We will never attempt to sell you anything and we will never sell your personal data to anyone. We are a research company studying the ways people use the internet so that the internet may answer their needs better.
  5. Your decision to take part in the research, to answer any of the questions, or to discontinue your participation will be fully respected.


Research Privacy Policy


This Privacy Policy presents the principles followed by Gemius SA in conducting the gemiusAudience research service (hereinafter Research).
Market and opinion research plays an important social role. It increases the efficiency of business and social decision-making. If you take part in the Research, your choices and the way you use the web help companies develop their services, improve customer relations, adapt content to viewers’ needs.
We have assumed a set of privacy protection rules as defined in this Privacy Policy. We adhere to the ICC/ESOMAR International Code of Market and Social Research. ESOMAR is a global organization associating individuals dealing with research services. ESOMAR lays down professional standards protecting your privacy, adopted by Gemius SA.

Your privacy is our key concern

When participating in the Research conducted by Gemius SA you may be certain that your privacy is well protected. Your trust in us is what we value most. Therefore all information you provide us with will be used for research purposes only. We will not pass your personal data to any third parties without your prior consent. Your particular answers to any survey questions will not be made accessible to anyone, and your potential decision to opt out of the Research will be fully respected. We will be contacting you only in specifically defined cases (see the list of cases).

Data we collect

The information we gather via the questionnaire is first and foremost the respondent particulars, i.e. data defining the socio-demographic and economic situation, such as the age, area of residence, gender, education, occupation, etc. In some countries we may also ask questions concerning your interests or consumption patterns related to such goods and services as mobile phone or internet provider.

While the Research questionnaire is being filled, Gemius SA collects some data for analysis. The data is of the same kind that is usually sent by your browser when viewing websites, i.e.:
  • Gemius cookie files
  • IP of the device.

In countries where participants are invited to install a special piece of software, they are asked in the last part of the questionnaire to provide their e-mail address so that we can contact them (see when we contact you). Once the software is installed, the following data is collected and sent to Gemius:
  • URL addresses of the visited web pages
  • List of used apps, their package names and their usage times
  • Geolocation of the device
  • Metadata of the audio files played
  • Gemius app's user-agent
  • Version of the operating system

Confidentiality of your questionnaire answers and contact details

All answers you give and data you provide us with will be treated as confidential. If we render it accessible to any entity along with your individual identifiable details (e.g. the e-mail address made accessible to a Subsidiary company or Partner in your country to enable contact), we do this for purposes related to the Research only, and these entities are obliged to maintain the confidential nature of the obtained information and must protect it in accordance with security regulations that may not be less strict than any standards applied by Gemius SA.

Your answers or data collected in course of the Research are combined with data obtained from other participants and passed on to the ordering party in the so-called aggregated form, i.e. in a form that makes it absolutely impossible to associate any answers with any particular person.

If you provide your e-mail address or any other contact details, these will be used for only for communication and purposes strictly related to the Research. We do not sell or otherwise consciously make this information available to anyone, in particular to our clients, other research agencies or sales marketing companies. In some countries our partner is engaged in contact with you. In this case the partner may have access to contact details, but he must secure them in a manner fully consistent with applicable law and privacy standards.

Any data obtained through the Research of no participant identification quality may be used by us or our partners for other research purposes in accordance with law and confidentiality standards. Data entrusted with us in this way is treated with utmost care and its transfer is supervised so that to ensure your trust in us is not strained.

Voluntary participation

Your participation in the Research is at all times fully voluntary. This means you do not have to fill in the questionnaire if you do not want to do so.


Remember that no personal information whatsoever will be collected by us without your prior consent and knowledge. At every stage of the Research you have the right to have any part or all data provided by you deleted or made anonymous.

Protection of the minors

Children are included in the Research only upon consent of their adult legal guardians. However, in consideration of the specificity of the internet, we may not in all cases guarantee that the person granting their consent is actually the authorised guardian. Following the due diligence rules in maintaining our professional, legal and ethical standards, all cases involving the risk of including underage persons are treated individually.

Cookie technology

In all research conducted by Gemius we use technologies saving data on the internet user’s device (cookie files and local storage space). For more information about the types, aims for which they are created and the ways to manage this kind of data you can contact us.

Personal details security

Gemius SA, as the party conducting research, is a personal information controller. We adhere to the rules of protecting the security and confidentiality of information as prescribed in the Personal Data Protection Act dated 29.08.1997, uniformed text in the Journal of Law 2002 No. 101, item 926. The personal data set collected by Gemius for the purpose of conducting the Research has been registered in accordance with the requirements specified by the Personal Data General Inspector under the number 074700.
We have appointed Data Protection Officer, who supervises companies’ compliance with the binding provisions of law and principles defined in this Research Privacy Policy.

Information allowing for individual identification of a person filling in the questionnaire (e.g. name, e-mail address) will be processed for research purposes for the period of time that is necessary to conduct the research.

Our employees are informed of the principles and procedures concerning confidentiality, security and privacy, with particular attention devoted to compliance with the above rules. Our security procedures are in keeping with the most strict standards used to protect personal data.

Personal data is accessed by only few specifically trained and authorised employees who run the Research. All are obliged to adhere to the Privacy Policy and the Good Practice Code imposed in Gemius SA. We do not allow access or usage of such information for purposes any other than those for which the data has been collected.

Accuracy of data

We make all effort to ensure that the data we collected is substantively correct and up-to-date. We also count on your help in provision of appropriate data, in particular by giving true answers to the questionnaire questions.

Your right to access the collected data

In order to obtain access to the complete set of information about you in our custody, you need to apply in writing to the e-mail address or postal address specified (see how to contact us) using the e-mail address you specified earlier or by providing other identification details we may ask you to produce.

We will do our best to send you back the full set of data we have about you within 30 days after receiving the application. If for any reasons were unable to give you the information you ask for, you will receive a written reply with explanation (legal basis) of the reasons why we cannot fulfill your request.

Your right to opt out and delete the collected data

At any stage of the Research, every participant has the right to resign from taking part in it.

Amendments to this Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as necessary. Feel free to review it regularly, so that you keep up with any potential changes.

If any significant amendments are made to the Policy, we will post a visible announcement on www.gemius.com within 30 calendar days before such changes come into force.

Due to the above, we provide several ways to ensure that you don’t see the questionnaire displayed on your device any more.

If you don’t wish us to collect statistical data regarding your behavior, you can:
  • Accept a special OPTOUT cookie.
  • Set your browser to clear cookies on browser close.
  • Disable cookies and local storage in your browser.

In relation to apps on mobile devices, these applications should give possibility of cookies control and deletion.

How to delete data obtained by Gemius

When do we contact you


When Gemius conducts its research, our questionnaires clearly identify us and explain the reasons why we are contacting you. Normally we contact you to invite you to participate in the Research.
The invitation takes the form of a questionnaire randomly sent to persons visiting websites (or use apps) whose administrators have agreed to such procedure. Moreover – whenever this is required by law – we send the questionnaires to persons who consented to the usage of the cookie and other technologies by Gemius.

You are encouraged to provide your e-mail address, as we want to keep in touch with the participants of our Research. Rest assured that in accordance with the Privacy Policy we do not send any advertising materials and we do not make your address available to anyone. The e-mail address you provide will only be used by us to send you information related to the Research. If you have given us your address, we will be using it to:
  • provide any necessary technical support ;
  • present you with some of the statistical data concerning internet users and their online behaviour, some of the Research results, answers to most frequently asked questions of the Panellists;
  • inform you on the course of the Research and its aims.

You can choose not to receive the above correspondence. Your request to block e-mails may be submitted by e-mail or phone, and we will cease sending messages as quickly as possible (see how to contact us).
